a flower for your friday

Surely among the tiniest, simplest, most unpretentious, of the spring wildflowers, the lily-of-the-valley. I removed most of these from my yard, as they’re difficult to control, but I’m glad I kept a few to bloom each spring in a planter. These, like the mayapple, are to me a sweet reminder of the charm of the woodland.

Have a good weekend.

This one came from the woods. The last time I walked this way, there wasn’t the slightest bit of spring. Now, the brush has turned green, mayapples flower close to the ground, and the white flowers and weeds of the woods bloom. The fragrance…ahh, the fragrance…the sweet fragrant surround is the scent of spring. And the last rays of sun for the day play, practice for a season yet to come.

Enjoy your weekend.

Winter comes, and winter goes. Like a cleansing breath. One morning we wake, songbirds are already busy and cheeping, forsythias have started to bloom, and you know spring is just along the way, somewhere past the bend. I don’t have many forsythia flowers blooming yet, but I found these sunny spots scattered around my yard, the first signs of spring.

Have a great weekend.
