At the end of winter, even the weeds look fresh and ready for a new season. This weekend we have a coronation and the Kentucky Derby. Have a great one.
Surely among the tiniest, simplest, most unpretentious, of the spring wildflowers, the lily-of-the-valley. I removed most of these from my yard, as they’re difficult to control, but I’m glad I kept a few to bloom each spring in a planter. These, like the mayapple, are to me a sweet reminder of the charm of the woodland.
This one came from the woods. The last time I walked this way, there wasn’t the slightest bit of spring. Now, the brush has turned green, mayapples flower close to the ground, and the white flowers and weeds of the woods bloom. The fragrance…ahh, the fragrance…the sweet fragrant surround is the scent of spring. And the last rays of sun for the day play, practice for a season yet to come.
The holy days of Ramadan, Holy Week, Easter, and Passover all converge this week, and I’d like to send along best wishes to you…for peace, good health, and joy.
Nothing timid about this one…a neighbor’s early blooming shrub, a flashy display of almost riotous color, and a good contrast to all the yellows blooming now.
